Happy Chinese New Year

23.01.12

Today marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, and the arrival of the Dragon of Chinese astrology.

Celebrations took place over the weekend across the globe, as people celebrated the optimism this mythical creature represents. A symbol of good fortune and sign of intense power, the Oriental Dragon is regarded as a divine beast and brings with it hope for better times ahead in 2012.

Occuring every twelve years this year is considered especially auspicious because it is the year of the water dragon, something that happens once every 60 years.

Free spirits of the Chinese zodiac, people born in the Year of the Dragon tend to be extroverts who have a deep love for nature and are innovative, passionate, enterprising, brave, self-assured, colorful, and flamboyant. Gifted and irrepressible, they are fearless of any challenges that may come their way, able to see clear the paths and take a radical approach to any harsh conditions. Previous Years of the Dragon are 1904 * 1916 * 1928 * 1940 * 1952 * 1964 * 1976 * 1988 * 2000.

Head towards Sydney's China Town, only a short walk from The Galeries to soak up the celebrations and atmosphere during the week.
