Happy End Designs Get Creative with Kinokuniya
20.10.10
We love a happy end especially when it is followed by the word design. And Happy End Designs have got Kinokuniya’s windows at the Galeries looking very happy. One hundred and eighty five art works in every medium from illustration, to textiles, to graphic design and assemblage are filling their gallery space, with quaint colours, shapes and textures and quixotic characters.
The group exhibition, Art by Design, is held at Kinokuniya annually and is curated by Happy End Designs, a collaborative art initiative who love the colour red and chocolate. This year’s Art by Design 6 unveils the kitsch works of twenty-one artists working in Australia.

Wearable artworks hang across the front of the window whilst the walls are choca-block full with framed accessories, objects, illustrations and graphic work. Needless to say this is one display not to be missed
Words that spring to mind when trying to describe this eclectic group of work are curious, ornate, charming and quirky. They reference odd objects, texture and pattern in way that makes you stop and appreciate the little details in life.
We particularly loved the cartoon style works of Tasman Munro Design, Little Red Creations wearable storybook dioramas, Happy End Designs charismatic floral ribbon brooches and Lets Call It Shirley and Evyie’s textile creations, though it was hard to pick favourites.
Art by Design 6 is on display till the 13th of November at Kinokuniya @ the Galeries and most of these delightful artworks and designs are also available for purchase.
