Modern Worship

20.04.11

Multi-media artist, Daniel Askill’s resume reads like a dream, listing awards from a string of film festivals, which stretches from Sydney to Brooklyn right round to Granada, dropping all the right names in all the right places along the way, think fashion favourites; Christian Dior and Alexander McQueen, music icons like Sia, Digitialism and Phoenix and Placebo. There is no doubt about it, Daniel has all the right ticks in all the right boxes when comes to all round creative genius.

Tonight Daniel will bring the next phase of his artistic body of work to Gallery A.S in Sydney.

His award-winning 2004 short film, We Have Decided Not To Die, was his first exploration into modern ritual and his next steps are set to be equally as groundbreaking.

Modern Worship features a large-scale slow motion video on loop, which examines modern pop culture from Hollywood spectacle to global disaster, idolatry and contemporary religion. Other pieces to look out for are small screen video and photographic editions, which question modern media’s influences on the individual.

We are sure Daniel is about to add some more dream notches to that stellar resume of his.

Modern Worship opens tonight 6-9pm at, Gallery A.S at The Christian Science Church, Darlinghurst.
