Street Art Goes Under the Hammer

12.10.10

Art lovers are being given the chance to buy a piece of urban history created by four of the most well known scenstas from the street art movement, Anthony Lister, Meggs, Ears and We Buy Your Kids.

The art works were created for 5 Project Live Art and Music Event, which took place in August at The Cockle Bay WharfIt is the panels of these large-scale contemporary art works that are now being auctioned off in the name of art. All proceeds go to Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE,), a charity supporting the marginalised youth communities of Western Sydney through creative programs.

All the artists involved have been significant figures in pioneering Australia's street art movement and have garnered attention for their unique style internationally. Their art works are heavily ingrained in themes of pop culture, sci-fi, symbology, music, underground street culture and, in the case of Sydney based artists We Buy Your Kids, witchcraft.

The calibre of the art on auction is awesome and as much as we would love to see these incredible pieces of art kept in the public eye for good, they are going to a good cause. Before they do we thought we would reveal them and the faces behind them to the public eye one more time.

The 5 Project auction will take place this Thursday the 14th at Leonard Joel Double Bay, the art works will be on display from now until then if you want to jump in for a squiz.
