SSS BIKE WINNER
Name: Alastair Moran
Age: 22
DOB:06/09/1987
Occupation: Remedial Massage Therapist.
Suburb you live in: Petersham/Newtown
About: Since year 10 I have been riding around the inner west, originally old 80#s and 90#s Racers with my mate Chan. From then on we began building our own bikes and customizing them with the available scrap parts we could muster from the decaying rusty wrecks of previously used machines. I was hooked by cycling, we both were. It has been thru fads and fazes, from Racers to Mountain bikes, Fixies to Lowriders but the same essential ingredients remain. 2 wheels and sum pedals.
I ride everywhere, in Sydney bicycle is hands down the fastest, cheapest and most effective form of transport available.
Im the guy racing the bus, or flying through a gap you didnt think was there, at great speed. I love the rush of going fast, and the confidence gained by beating cars.
I broke my Tailbone in 7 places, 2 Lumbar vertebrae, my LHip,4 Ribs,LWrist and Scull in a non cycling related drunken climbing incident 2 years ago. True story, i was devastated in hospital as i had to stay bedridden for 2 months and watched my legs get weaker and all the hard work i had put into building them up racing traffic. As soon as i could walk i was back on my bike. It helped me rehabilitate and regain my fitness. It was what i really looked forward to the freedom of the bicycle, being able to go from Point A to point B, leave with just enough time to get there, choose whatever route you want, and be there all with your own power.
The one word cure for 2 of the worlds biggest problems Obesity and Carbon emissions....Bicycle. Do it, Get one Ride it. Man invented the wheel, use it.
How’d you hear about the exhibition: Originally the flyer caught my eye in a cafe on king st. Then i followed it online via facebook. Plus i always rode past it and checked out the bikes on the way to work.
What like about the exhibition: The atmosphere created, there was such a buzz in the city around the build up to the final series. Credit to the amazing bikes and people who donated them to the exhibition, they were a spectacle to all the bike lovers and people new to the scene, and anyone that could appreciate the design and aesthetic choice of the set ups, it really is an art form how far some of these guys have taken it.
Favorite store in The Galeries, and why? I like the Fashion in Carhartt and the awesome competitions and staff. The T Shirts at Graniph Design are also amazing.
What do you think about the bike you’ve just won? I am so excited! Skipped down King St yelling out praises heel clicking and all! Which i spose is nothing out of the ordinary for King st. The Bike is so nice and unique, I love that this whole community could come together and create this prize. You can rest assured that it is is very capable hands in regards to both getting the absolute MOST out of it, and keeping it in a well cared for loving home. It looks amazing, a very important factor, and i will let you know all about how great it rides the second i get a chance!
If you ever see me riding around the city or the inner west on this machine say hi! If I have got time i will surely let you try out the bike!
What do you plan to do with it? Race my friends, Share my luck around, keep it pretty, show it off, ride it hard.
